If we organize the tour in April-May or November, then the cabin lift in Borovets is closed.
Day 1: Sofia – arrival.
Arrival transfer with panorama of the city, check in, dinner and overnight your hotel.
Day 2: Sofia – Rila Monastery – Borovets
City tour of Sofia – we will see the Parliament, Alexander Nevski Memorial Cathedral, St. Sofia, the ruins of Ancient Serdica, The Presidency and the National Theatre with the Old City Garden.
Departure to Rila Monastery UNESCO site and visit of the largest Bulgarian monastery, located 1100 m above sea level in Rila Mountain National park.
Late afternoon departure to Borovets mountain resort – the oldest Bulgarian winter resort with a history that dates back to 1896, existing as a hunting place for the Bulgarian Kings. Enjoy crystal clean air and unspoilt nature. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Borovets – Plovdiv (except for Monday and Tuesday!)
From the center of Borovets – take Yastrebets cabin lift which for 25 min will climb from 1315 to 2369 m above sea level, with wonderful panoramas of mountain peaks and Borovets.
After a pleasant walk and time for pictures towards Musala peak (the highest peak on the Balkan peninsula, 2925 m), we will go down with the lift and depart to Plovdiv.
Arrival at the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Plovdiv
Day dedicated to Plovdiv – the 2nd largest Bulgarian city – once capital city of Philip the 2nd of Macedonia, the father of Alexander the Great.
Morning visit the Old Plovdiv architectural reserve, awarded golden medal for architecture by UNESCO – the Ancient Stadium, the Ethnographic museum ( so-called Royal House ), St. Constantine and Helena Church, the Ancient Amphitheatre. Visit Kapana – the artistic neighbourhood of Plovdiv and walk along the oldest pedestrian street in the world, defeating Copenhagen in 2015.
Plovdiv will be European Capital of culture in 2019.
Dinner and overnight in Plovdiv.
Day 5: Plovdiv – Kazanluk – Shipka – Veliko Turnovo
Departure to Kazanluk – the centre of the Valley of Roses, known as well as the Valley of the Thracian kings. Visit the Rose Museum in Kazanluk and Kazanluk Thracian tomb ( UNESCO site, copy ).
Cross the central highest part of the Balkan mountains and stop for pictures at Shipka memorial peak. En route visit Shipka memorial church. Proceed to Veliko Turnovo – the Medieval capital city of Bulgaria, picturesquely located on 4 hills above Yantra river. Check in at the hotel. Afternoon walk in the Old Veliko Turnovo and Samovodska Charshia street of crafts. Dinner in the Old part of Veliko Turnovo, overnight.
Day 6: Veliko Turnovo – Sofia
Morning visit of Tsarevets Royal Hill with the fortress, Patriarh`s complex and Baldwin tower ( the leader of the 4thCrusade, who was imprisoned there ). Proceed to Sofia. Check in at the hotel and free time for own discoveries/ shopping.
Evening transfer for farewell dinner with folklore performance. Return to the hotel after diner.
Day 7: Sofia – departure transfer
Free time and departure transfer to the airport
