One day trip to Saeva Dupka Cave and Glozhene Monastery
It’s assumed that the cave has been formed around 3, 5 million years. First researches are dating from 1883. During the archaeological works lots of animal bones, pottery and coins from Roman time have been found in the cave. It has been declared a natural sightseeing in 1963 and in 1967 has been electrified and some improvements have been made inside. The cave has 5 halls: – Stack of sheaves, – Rockfall, – Treshing-yard, – The white stone, – Space.
The duration of the whole walk is about 30 min. inside you will see a fairy tale made of different shapes of stalactites and stalagmites coloured in red. The cave also has another name: The underground pearl of Bulgarian caves.
The name of the monastery is ’’ St. George the victorious’’ and has been founded in the mid 13 by the Kiev Kniaz George Glozh which has been granted the permition from Bulgarian King to settle here. Nesting at the top of a vertical cliff it looks like an inaccessible fort and when you are there you feel the whole world is in your feet.
